Writing Exercise

What is the Writing Exercise?

As part of your application to Georgetown University in Qatar, a writing exercise (WE) is required. The exercise is an hour-long session during which you will be asked to write a short response to a prompt.

The WE does not require advanced knowledge or preparation on any particular topic. The Admissions Committee will review the essay for logic, grammar, syntax, sentence structure, etc. The exercise simulates a routine experience in which students are asked to share written work in a class.

Applicants may not use external sources to support their WE. In other words, the use of Google or other online search engines or physical books or resources available on the internet or elsewhere to support their WE is strictly not allowed. The WE should be 100% the applicant’s own work and should not use any outside or external resources. All writing exercises are verified through turnitin.com.

How to register for the WE

Students who have submitted an application to GUQ can register for the WE online. Kindly note that the writing exercise is an electronic/typewritten exercise. All applicants must complete the exercise online. Further instructions will be sent via email after registration.

WE Waiver Policy

We maintain a WE waiver policy in cases where an applicant has completed the ACT with Writing or the SAT with Optional Essay and the Office of Admissions receives the writing sample from the testing agency. Note: The WE waiver is based on the receipt of the writing sample and NOT the scores.
