COVID-19 Update: Admissions Testing Requirements
SAT & ACT Testing
Georgetown University in Qatar is implementing a flexible approach to our standardized testing (SAT, ACT) requirements for fall 2023 applicants. GU-Q values the information provided by standardized testing and will continue to consider test scores as part of our holistic admissions review process. However, we understand that some students may be prevented from taking either the SAT or ACT due to challenges brought about by COVID-19.
For this reason, the GU-Q Office of Admissions will be flexible and fully consider applications from students who encounter difficulties completing standardized tests due to the pandemic.
English Language Proficiency Testing
Georgetown University in Qatar will continue to require submission of either the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (DET) for all applicants. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, GU-Q will accept the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept the IELTS Indicator at this time.
While there is no required minimum Duolingo, TOEFL or IELTS score for admission to GU-Q, the most competitive applicants have scores of:
- 120 or better on the Duolingo English Test
- 100 or better on the Internet- based TOEFL (600 or better on the paper-based TOEFL exam)
- 7 or better on the IELTS
It is generally recommended that individuals with the scores below delay applying and continue to work on their English:
- 100 on the Duolingo English Test
- 80 on the Internet- based TOEFL (550 on the paper-based TOEFL exam)
- 6 on the IELTS
Waiver of English Proficiency Examinations
We waive the English language proficiency exam requirement for applicants who score 620 or better on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the New SAT or 26 or better on the ACT Reading/Writing sections. For more information on English Language proficiency examination waivers, please see our English Language Proficiency Exam Waiver Policy.
