M. Reza Pirbhai is Associate Professor of History at Georgetown University in Qatar. He specializes in South Asian and world history, with a particular focus on Islam and Muslims in modern South Asia. His current research projects are concerned with autobiographical literature in Pakistan, and the nature of colonial violence in British India.

Professor Pirbhai is the author of Fatima Jinnah: Mother of the Nation (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and Reconsidering Islam in a South Asian Context (Brill, 2009). He has also published articles on Islamic law, theology and mysticism, Muslim and Hindu nationalism, colonialism and gender in South Asia, and British travel literature. His articles have appeared in several scholarly journals and anthologies, including South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies, Journal of Asian History, Modern Intellectual History, Journal of Islamic and Muslim Studies, HAWWA: Journal of Women of the Middle East and the Islamic World, and the Oxford Handbook of Islamic Law

Prior to joining GU-Q, Professor Pirbhai was an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba and an associate professor at Louisiana State University. He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Toronto.
