General Conference Information
Georgetown University in Qatar is dedicated to creating a conference that is diverse and composed of students representing a variety of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Every year the conference hosts schools from Qatar and across the world, and has participating schools from almost every continent.

Our annual MUN conference is a forum for high school delegations of up to six students to debate current global issues and gain insight into the world of international politics and decision-making.
The 2020 MUN Conference will be hosted at Georgetown University, Qatar from Thursday, February 20th to Sunday, February 23rd. Applications will be considered from school delegations only.
The program will include:
- Opening and closing ceremonies
- Nine committee sessions chaired by Georgetown University in Qatar students
- Cultural Night at Marriot Marquis Hotel
The participation fee for international delegations is $1,500 USD for a team of six students and one adult advisor. Payment of the participation fee must be received in full by wire transfer by December 5, 2019 in order to secure your delegation’s participation. Committee positions will only be distributed to your delegation after receipt of payment.
The participation fee covers all conference activities, shuttle transfers in Doha to/from the airport, hotel accommodation for the group for four nights (Wednesday, February 19th, Thursday, February 20th, Friday, February 21st, and Saturday, February 22nd), transport to/from the conference venue, two meals a day, and any necessary visa applications.
- The participation fee is non-refundable, even if a member of the delegation drops out or your delegation cancels.
- Schools may elect to bring an additional advisor. The participation fee for an additional advisor is $1,000 USD.
6 students + 1 advisor = $1500
6 students + 2 advisors = $2500
- Name changes / substitutions will not be accepted after November 28, 2019.
- Schools may elect to arrive early and/or stay late at the conference hotel. Georgetown can facilitate your hotel booking by putting you in contact with the appropriate hotel representatives, but your delegation will be responsible for paying the costs of the additional hotel nights directly to the hotel.
Accommodation in Doha
The official conference hotel is the Marriott Marquis in the West Bay area of Doha. The hotel is connected to City Center Mall, and within walking distance of the Corniche and many other restaurants and hotels. It is approximately 20-30 minutes by bus from our conference venue, Georgetown University in Qatar.

We will cover the costs of your group’s stay at the conference hotel for for four nights (Wednesday, February 19th, Thursday, February 20th, Friday, February 21st, and Saturday, February 22nd). If you would like to book additional nights at the conference rate, your delegation will need to contact the hotel and pay them directly for these nights. We will need to know this information by January 10, 2019 in order to inform the hotel.
Upon check-in, all delegation advisors will be required to present a credit card for any additional charges their group may incur (phone calls, internet, laundry, mini bar, additional meals, additional nights' stay, etc).
Important Rooming Policies
Your students will be assigned to rooms in pairs. If your school brings an uneven number of male and female delegates GU-Q has the right to potentially place your students in a triple room.
If this is an issue with parents or the school, then they will be responsible for paying for an extra room for that student for the duration of the conference.
By submitting this application, the school and participants agree to this policy.
If your school delegation is accepted, Georgetown will apply and purchase your visas prior to your arrival to Doha if you require a visa. Please note that Georgetown does not guarantee that every visa will be issued.
All passport copies for participants (students and advisers) must be included as part of the delegation’s application in order for it to be considered complete. Please note that it these should be the passport the student is planning to travel on.
Please email passport copies to firstname.lastname@example.org latest by December 12th.
NOTE: If you email your passport copy after December 12th, Georgetown will NOT process your visa.
All passports must be valid for six months after arrival in Doha (until August 19, 2020). Please confirm that your delegation’s passports are up-to-date so that you do not have any issues entering the country.
All participants’ passport copies must be received by December 12th in order for the application to be complete.
Only emailed passport copies are accepted. Passport copies will not be accepted via fax as they are not clear enough to be able to use.
The following must be legible for each person:
- Full Name
- Passport number
- Place of issue
- Date of issue
- Expiry date (must be six months or more from the date of arrival in Doha, so August 19th, 2020)
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
