Some of my data is sensitive and some of it is not. How do I classify my data and know where to store it appropriately?
You must ensure that certain types of data are put on the right type of storage system. Georgetown has policies that define different data types, and which storage system is acceptable to use with a given data type. Please review the official policies below.
- Georgetown University Information Classification Policy: What are the specifics of what constitutes public, private, and restricted data?
- Georgetown University Revised Data Classifications Policy: Where must I put public, private, and restricted data?
For a quick overview, see the table below explaining the different data types and appropriate storage locations.
If still unsure about the type of data or the appropriate storage location, please open a ticket in GUQ Helpcenter and the GU-Q Information Security officer will consult with you on the issue.
