About the Writing Center

Our Clients

Students make hundreds of appointments in WC every year. Our clients include

  • GU-Q students, from freshmen to seniors
  • EC students cross-registered in GU-Q courses
  • Students who write because they love it
  • Students who write because the professor assigned a paper (and they want to improve)
  • Writing peer tutors because everyone can improve

The Tutoring Experience

We work with students on a variety of documents for class, extracurricular activities, and career/internship pursuits. Examples include

  • Essays
  • Response papers
  • Summaries
  • Annotated bibliographies
  • Honors theses
  • Certificate theses
  • Research proposals
  • Study abroad applications
  • Cover letters
  • Newsletter articles
  • Speeches

Your tutor will begin by asking what you would like to work on during the session. Having the assignment, instructions, or prompt with you can be helpful. The session will be interactive and collaborative with the tutor asking lots of questions. Since every writer has his/her own style, your tutor will prompt you about areas for improvement or adjustment, but s/he will not edit or rewrite your paper. While there are rules for grammar, citations, and other technical aspects of writing, there is no right or wrong way to write and your paper should consist of your ideas and the style should sound like you.

The Process

We work with students at every stage of the writing process.
