Health Care in Qatar
Qatar has private and public healthcare available with hospitals and clinics in both sectors. In addition, Qatar Foundation has a primary healthcare center for all employees at Education City. GU-Q coordinates orientation programs and information sessions throughout the year to help educate faculty, staff and their family members on the healthcare system in Qatar and their private medical insurance.

Every resident in Qatar is eligible for free vaccinations which may be particularly useful when traveling outside of Qatar for pleasure or business purposes. To find more information visit the Vaccination Health Centers Distribution List. Depending on where you reside in Doha you will be asked to use a designated center. Those that do not have a residence permit, can receive vaccinations in the Mesaimeer Health Center (however,you will need to show your passport). For some immunizations a prior doctor consultation will be required (also free of charge). Examples of vaccinations advised when traveling to Qatar include: Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Rabies. Please check with your doctor about necessary vaccinations for you.
Public Health Care
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the state operated public, non-profit health care provider in Qatar comprised of 8 hospitals, 24 Primary Health Care Centers and 3 Pediatric Emergency Centers. Health care services at HMC clinics and hospitals are heavily subsidized by the state. Private Health Care
There are a number of private hospitals and clinics in Qatar. A majority of GU - Q community members use the private sector unless the specialty required is not available in the private sector or in the case of high level emergencies. Most private hospitals have a 24/7 Emergency Department but for heart, strokes, major trauma and illness, you will need to go to Hamad Hospital. Some examples of private hospitals/care centers are the QF Privacy Health Care Center, Sidra Medical and Research Center, Al Ahli Hospital and the Doha Clinic.
Qatar Foundation Primary Health Care Center (QF PHCC). QF PHCC provides free medical and dental care to QF employees and their families (GU-Q ID is required). The clinic is located in the Hamad bin Khalifa Student Center with dedicated clinic parking. There is a prescription dispensary within the clinic and a small pharmacy inside the HBKU Student Center (Kulud Pharmacy).
Sidra Medical and Research Center is a recent ultra-modern, all-digital academic medical center located near the Education City area. Three clinics have been launched - Dermatology, Pediatric General Surgery Consultation, and Obstetrics, supported by radiology, pathology, pharmacy, and laboratory facilities. Sidra's Outpatient Clinic currently provides services for women and children through a referral based system. Doha Clinic was the first fully- integrated private hospital in Qatar, opened by the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Al- Thani.
