Guide to Operations: GU-Q and Education City

GU-Q will continue operations throughout the FIFA World Cup 2022™ with limited services and different guidelines for match and non-match days. From November 1, staff and employees may work remotely in Qatar with supervisor approval. This information is subject to change without notice. Check official sources for updates.

GU-Q CampusBuilding, parking, and entrance(s) open daily with separate restrictions and guidelines for match and non-match days Nov 18-Dec 18. (See Operations Quick Guide)
Non-Match DaysBuilding open to all GU-Q community members and escorted visitors at all entrances, with essential staff and no dining and office services. New traffic patterns may affect your commute. Entrance opening hours as detailed here.
Match-DaysBuilding open to all GU-Q community members and escorted visitors through the Loading Dock only, with essential staff and limited dining and office services. Restrictions on gate access, transportation, and parking will be in effect. Education City-wide lockdowns of vehicular movement begin six hours before each kickoff until three hours after the match. (See EC Stadium match schedule)

EC Gates and Vehicle Access

Match Days
Lockdown: No car access six hours before to three hours after match
Driving/Parking: Before and after lockdown only. GU-Q car park will be accessible. Dorms parking will be available at Al Shaqab Stadium (See shuttle & housing pickup/drop off map)
EC Access: Gate 3 before and after lockdown only
Scooters and Bicycles: Allowed all day outside Red Zone only
Pedestrians: Allowed all day
Non-Match Days
Parking: GU-Q car park will be accessible.
Driving: Traffic patterns/conditions may affect commute
EC Access: Gates 2, 3, 5, 14, and 19 accessible Nov 1-Dec 31
Access Closure: Gate 1 closed Nov 1-Dec 31

Safety and Security: Planning Ahead

Don’t Draw Attention: In the interest of reducing the impact of potential crimes during an influx of visitors, please keep jewelry, watches, cash, and high value grab-and-go items out of sight and in your home.
Protect Property: Never leave purse/wallet/phone unattended
Stay Alert: Thieves target crowds, public transport, & ATMs
Sexual Assault Safety: Be observant, trust instincts, & report violations
Emergency Plan: Prepare emergency contact list, keep phone charged, tell a friend your plans, & check in often

Official FIFA World Cup 2022™ at Education City Stadium

Education City stadium is the venue for six group-stage matches, a Round-of-16 game, and one quarter-final. Check the official match schedule to plan your journey around EC lockdowns on match days.

Operations Quick Guide: November 18-December 18, 2022

Services: No office assistants, Cafeteria, Tim Horton’s, or Bookstore from Nov 11-Jan1

Maintenance: Building interior projects and maintenance only

Lockdown: No cars can enter Education City, drive around, or exit during a period starting six hours before and ending three hours after each match. Times may vary, check match schedule. See EC access guidelines listed in table below.

FAQ’s

Effective November 1, 2022, healthcare centers will begin remote consultation appointments for majority (70%) of services. Emergency and in-person admissions are restricted to family medicine, pediatrics and dentistry.

The QF clinic will be closed match days, open Sun-Thu on non-match days.

Uber and Careem will have an assigned drop off location on match days on the North Campus, see map. On non-match days the pick up location should revert to normal.

 

Official FIFA Taxi, Uber, Careem Information:

Drop-off and pick-up areas are a 10-minute walk to the stadium. These areas will open 4 hours before match kick-off and close 1.5 hours after the final whistle.

There will be no changes on the operations during non-match days. We recommend to avoid any site visits or tours during match days.

 

Food delivery will not be available on match days from 6 hours before the match and 3 hours afterwards.

Prayer attendees will be allowed to drive to EC Mosque for Friday prayer through Gate 5 only on match days. We would recommend using an alternative mosque on these dates.

Faculty, staff and students may park at GU-Q six hours before the game and will likely not be able to leave until three hours after the game finishes. Students may use the car park Nov 11-Jan 1.

Yes, the access will be through the Loading Dock Entrance only.
