2014 Conference Invitation

Dear Prospective Applicant,

The Middle Eastern Studies Student Association (MESSA) at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar invites qualified undergraduate students to submit papers for the Third Annual Undergraduate Conference on Middle Eastern Studies. This year’s theme is Globalization and the Middle East: Youth, Media and Resources. Striving to enhance undergraduate research culture, MESSA provides a dynamic platform that allows students to present their work as well as facilitate academic discussion and informed dialogue on economic, social and political issues pertaining to the Middle East.

Undergraduate students with original research on the Middle East are invited to submit their papers to participate in this third international MESSA conference, which will take place March 20-22, 2014, at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service campus in Doha, Qatar.

Students are requested to submit their research paper, a brief biography, and a high resolution professional photo to sfsqmessa@georgetown.edu. Papers will be assessed based on research quality and relevance to the conference theme. Exemplary research papers will be included in the inaugural edition of the MESSA academic journal.

The deadline for applications is January 10, 2014. Complete papers are preferred; however, incomplete papers that are accompanied by a clear abstract, methodology, and bibliography will also merit consideration. All accepted papers will be expected to be submitted in their final form by February 21, 2014. All research papers must be written in English. Papers should be approximately 10-15 pages in length excluding bibliography, double-spaced and formatted with 12-point Times New Roman font.

Participants will be notified of the Executive Committee’s decision via e-mail by January 24 in order to organize conference participation and travel arrangements. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
