Do I have to be an undergraduate student to participate in this conference?
Yes, you have to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.
What is the application procedure?
Interested applicants should submit their paper, a brief biography, and high resolution professional photo to sfsqmessa. Papers will be assessed based on research quality and relevance to the conference theme. Exemplary research papers will be included in the inaugural edition of the MESSA academic journal. The application deadline is Thursday, January 8, 2015.
Do I have to submit a full paper by the January 8, 2015 deadline or may I submit an abstract?
You must submit a full paper by the deadline for you application to be considered complete.
Do I have to submit an original paper?
You may submit a paper previously written for one of your courses.
What if I’m not done with my research?
Only complete papers will be considered.
When will I find out regarding my acceptance to the MESSA conference?
You will hear back from the MESSA committee by January 15, 2015.
What form should submitted papers take?
All research papers must be written in English. Papers should be approximately 10-15 pages in length, excluding bibliography, double-spaced and formatted with 12-point Times New Roman font. Chicago citation style is strongly preferred.
Should I do anything after submitting my application?
The receipt of your application will be confirmed within 24 hours.
What if I wrote my paper as a co-author?
You are welcome to submit any paper you have written as a co-author. Please keep in mind, however, that funding will be disbursed on a per-paper basis.
What are the costs to attend the conference?
MESSA will cover flight and accommodation costs for participants for the duration of the conference. Participants will also be provided with breakfast and dinner for the duration of the conference. MESSA will not cover any pre- and post-conference travel and accommodation costs as well as any incidental expenses.
How can I get an entry visa to Qatar?
Participants unable to get a visa upon arrival at Hamad International Airport will be offered assistance in procuring a visa prior to arrival in Qatar.
Citizens of the United States, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece , Finland, Spain, Monaco, the Vatican, Iceland, Andorra, San Marino, Lichtenstein, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea may obtain a tourist visa upon arrival. MESSA will not cover visa expenses in such instances.
What is the schedule for the conference?
The 2014 Conference schedule will be release in early 2015.
What is the dress code?
The Conference will feature both formal and semi-formal events; please prepared for business and business casual. Check the conference schedule, upon release, for further information.
How should I prepare my presentation?
Presentations should be devised in PowerPoint format. Should you require particular media, technology or materials please inform us at least one week prior to the conference. Please email us a copy of your presentation and any files, such as handouts, you will be using one day prior to your presentation.
