H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa Al Thani Hosts Georgetown Alumni at National Museum Reception

Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Doha Film Institute, and Reach Out to Asia, welcomed over 40 alumni of Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) for a reception at the iconic Qatar National Museum.

Held at the Old Palace exhibition space of the museum, the networking event was a highlight of the university’s active and engaged alumni community, and demonstrated Her Excellency’s dedication to the educational vision of the State of Qatar and position as a Co-Chair of the GU-Q Joint Advisory Board.

The dean of GU-Q, Dr. Ahmad Dallal, expressed his gratitude to Her Excellency for the exclusive invitation, saying: “It is always a pleasure to come together as a growing community of Georgetown graduates, and the venue of the National Museum, the embodiment of the country’s growing cultural diplomacy and celebration of national heritage, offered our students a very special space to meet old friends and forge new connections.”

Alumni in attendance represented a wide variety of industries in government and the public and private sector, including the Amiri Diwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Communications Office, as well as WISE, WISH,  Al Fardan Holding, Msheireb Museums, HSBC, Qatar Airways, UNESCO, Doha International Family Institute, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and graduate students attending top international universities, among others.

For Eman Thowfeek, who graduated in 2016 with a degree in International Politics, the reception also presented a chance to meet a leading figure in Qatar’s burgeoning culture and arts scene. “Her Excellency took the time to meet with graduates individually at the event, for chats about their college experience, career outlook, and more. It was a very special engagement opportunity for us.”

The associate director of Student Development and alumni liaison at GU-Q, Afsha Kohli, partnered with Louise Cutajar, Director of Events and Partnership, and other personnel from Qatar Museums Authority to organize the event and ensure its success.
