High School Students Experience “A Day in the Life” at Georgetown

A Day in the Life of a Georgetown Student

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) held its annual “A Day in the Life” Open House on January 15, which gave prospective students a chance to experience college life first-hand, and help guide their path to academic success. The event is the final student recruitment drive before the university’s upcoming February 1st application deadline, and provided key information about the school’s degree programs and application requirements for the 2020-2021 academic year.

An annual tradition, the Day in the Life Open House gave high school and transfer students the unique opportunity to have a real college experience by attending a sample lecture delivered by a member of the faculty, and to ask current students and alumni about their experience at Georgetown and career path following graduation. They also learned about newly expanded financial aid options, student services, sports, housing, and more.

Associate Director of Admissions Mariam Lachin shared how important admissions events are for Qatar’s educational landscape, saying: “We always look forward to hosting the next class of committed and enthusiastic learners, and to share with them the unparalleled opportunities for inquiry, education, service, and personal enrichment they have at GU-Q and as part of the Qatar Foundation family,” she said. “We also love to hear from students about their education interests and career goals. Ultimately, we want them to see themselves here.”

Georgetown’s unique interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree programs, which use the same internationally-ranked curriculum as Georgetown’s main campus in Washington, DC, include majors in International Economics, International History, International Politics, and Culture and Politics. Newly added minors in Arabic, Economics, Government, History, Philosophy, and Theology, allow students to customize their majors and expand their areas of interest and expertise as graduates.

Information about the application process, future admissions events, and the upcoming deadline can be found on the university’s website or through a visit to the Admissions Department at GU-Q.
