Registration Opens for Georgetown’s Spring Community Classes

Community Classes 2016

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) has opened registration for the spring session of its Community Education Program. Starting the week of March 11, members of the public in Qatar will have the opportunity to learn a new skill or explore a personal interest through a diverse range of courses.

The University’s Community Education Program is open to all, with weekly classes held in the evenings to suit the needs of working professionals. There are 17 courses on offer this spring, which will be taught over six weeks at GU-Q’s Education City campus. While registration is open until the end of the first week of classes, there is an early bird discount on fees for students who register before February 11, 2018.

The line-up for the semester includes a number of new courses, which cover topics ranging from fake news to Microsoft Excel, narrative photography, living interculturally, emergency and disaster management, and investigative journalism. A number of classes, such as Formal Spoken Arabic and Co-Active Coaching, are taught exclusively in Arabic.

“Community classes are an opportunity for us to support the wider community in Qatar in their efforts to be life-long learners,” said Senior Assistant Dean and Director of Executive and Professional Education, Dr. Cynthia J. Hebsgaard. “We hope the courses will help members of the public refine their skills and discover new professional interests.”

While the community classes are not for formal credit, participants who attend at least five out of the six classes receive a certificate of completion. Classes are taught by a range of GU-Q faculty and staff, as well as leading academics and private sector experts in Qatar. To date, more than 500 students have taken part in the program, which GU-Q has offered since March 2015.

The classes are open to students over the age of 18, and no previous qualification or degree is required in order to enroll. More information about the courses on offer is available on the Community Education Program website: https://epe.qatar.georgetown.edu/community-education.
