Writing Center and Faculty Collaboration

The Writing Center is an extension of the Office of Academic Services, and our objective is to support students’ autonomous learning as they strengthen their writing skills and find their voice. GU-Q Writing Center practices are informed by current instructional, tutoring, and writing pedagogy. The center offers far more than grammar assistance to students. We support all aspects of student writing from idea generation to accurate citing and referencing. We aim to align the support we provide to students with their coursework and expectations of faculty.

The staff is happy to work with faculty in the following ways.

In-Class Workshops & Presentations

We are happy to work with you to deliver a workshop on a number of topics. Examples include

  • Citing and referencing in MLA, APA, or Chicago
  • Paraphrasing skills
  • Integrating source content effectively
  • Avoiding run-on sentences and fragments

Assignment-Specific Assistance

Whether students visit the Writing Center independently or at the suggestion of a professor, it is valuable for the staff to have an understanding of assignments, requirements, expectations and objectives. If you plan to recommend students come to the Writing Center, we are happy to discuss the assignment and how our staff and tutors could best support your students.

Please contact the Writing Center Coordinator, Kerry Sauer, to discuss these or any other ideas you have for collaboration.
