It was a historic year for Georgetown University in Qatar as we celebrated our 20th year of partnership with Qatar Foundation. As we conclude the year, we pause to look back at the exciting events that marked this important milestone, and celebrate the collective achievements of our community. This year we….
Renewed our Partnership With Qatar Foundation…
We celebrated our 20th year in Qatar with the signing of a new ten year agreement with Qatar Foundation, honored Alumni who have made an impact in Qatar and the world, and brought together our community for a series of conversations and festivities that honored our past and looked to the future.


…Honored the accomplishments of our students…
We bid farewell to the Class of 2025, and welcomed our largest class of incoming students to Qatar. We celebrated our third Rhodes Scholar, Fatima Yunusa, innaugural Ecological Belonging Fellow Amira Zhanat, and students hosting the UN Local Council of Youth, and first NATO Simulation in the Global South.

National Human Capacity Building
We pushed boundaries in important fields…
Dr. Mohamed Zayani’s award-winning book is redefining global digital studies, Dr. Trish Kahle’s book is pioneering Social History, and Dr. Suzi Mirgani won awards for her film with a Sudanese heroine. Dr. Gerd Nonneman was recognized for advancing Gulf Studies, Dr. Clyde Wilcox for advancing religion and politics, and Dr. Gabor Schiering for being a global thought leader on Democracy.






More Faculty Research and Teaching
…And fostered impactful community conversations to advance regional priorities on the global stage.
We contributed to dialogue at the World Innovation Summit for Education, Second World Summit for Social Development, and the Georgetown Global Dialogues in Spain and Italy. We also hosted major Hiwaraat conferences about Seeing Sudan and Decolonizing Energy, as well as the first Black Literary Festival in the region.
