Gani Aldashev

Gani Aldashev is Professor of International Economics at Georgetown University in Qatar. Before joining GU-Q, he was Professor of Economics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and a Research Fellow at the ECARES (European Center for Advanced Research in Economics and Statistics). In 2024-25, he was a fellow of the Center Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. His main research fields are development economics, political economics, and economic history. His main expertise concerns the economics and organization of the non-profit and NGO sector, the role of traditional institutions (customary justice, clans/tribes) in developing countries, and the economic history of Central Asia.Previously, he taught at the University of Namur (Belgium) and the University of Cergy-Pontoise (France). He received his PhD in Economics at Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) in 2005. He is a member of the European Development Network (EUDN), a founding member of the N.G.O. (Nonprofits, Governments, and Organizations) Network, and an associate member of Theoretical Research in Development Economics (ThReD) research network.
