Georgetown in Qatar Students Receive Top Honors
On April 1st, 105 students were announced as Dean’s Honors recipients at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar’s (SFS-Q) annual Dean’s Honors Dinner. Hosted by SFS-Q Dean Gerd Nonneman and held at the Georgetown building in Education City, this event is a Georgetown tradition that celebrates the hard work of dedicated students who have excelled in their studies.
This year’s Dean’s Honors List indicates outstanding academic performance by students for the spring 2012 and fall 2012 terms. First Honors signifies the highest level of achievement and requires a grade point average of 3.9 or above; Second Honors is awarded for great achievement, with a GPA of 3.7 or above; and the Dean’s List is for students who have obtained an honorable standing of 3.5 or above. At the dinner, Dean Nonneman spoke to the students and said, “The value of bringing students together who have earned these accolades over two semesters is to recognize that such an accomplishment is extremely hard work when considering the incredibly challenging curriculum that the University is known for. All of you who have earned these awards really deserve it. You’ve done a great job.”
In addition to Dean Nonneman, members of the Georgetown community attending the dinner included Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Daniel Stoll, Associate Dean for Student Development Brendan Hill, and Assistant Deans for Academic Affairs Heather Kerst, James MacGregor, Anne Nebel and Christine Schiwietz. Numerous professors helped the deans distribute personalized award certificates to the honorees.
