Nina Youkhanna
GU-Q Doctoral Fellow
Nina Youkhanna is GU-Q Doctoral Fellow at GU-Q for 2025-2026. She is a doctoral candidate in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University. Her research focuses on Modern Arabic Literature, particularly of the mid- and late twentieth century. Her dissertation traverses multiple literary genres—novels, poetry, and theatre—to examine the expressions and manifestations of a postmodern turn in Syrian literature written and produced between 1980 and 2000. Engaging with sociopolitical realities as well as Arab and Western theoretical paradigms, her dissertation shows how the perceived political and cultural “crisis” of these decades was reflected in and contended within Syrian literary writings. Nina is a novice translator and her translations have been published in Arablit and Asymptote. Youkhanna has an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Toronto (2016) and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Western University (2015).
