Biography
A native of France, Damien Tissot has taught French and Philosophy in multiple countries. From his experience abroad, Dr. Tissot has brought both a personal and theoretical interest in languages, interculturality, and translation.
At Georgetown University in Qatar, Dr. Tissot is the Director of the French & Global Languages Programs. He oversees the administration of language placement and proficiency assessments while running the French program. Before joining Georgetown University, he obtained a PhD in Gender Studies and Philosophy from Paris 8 University. He was also a Senior Lecturer at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) where he taught a wide variety of French classes and coordinated graduate assistants in the French language program.
In the classroom, Dr. Tissot is interested in the use of technology, community engaged learning, and inclusivity. He is consistently leading innovative projects in the pedagogy of philosophy, informed by his expertise in language pedagogies as well as environmental and postcolonial studies.
His research, which combines philosophy, gender studies, and Francophone studies, has appeared in Philosophy Today, Philosophy & Rhetoric, Cahiers du Genre, Etudes francophones, Multitudes, Les Ateliers de l’Ethique, LiCarC, Etudes Ricoeuriennes/Ricoeur Studies. His current book project examines the various uses of the notion of care in ecofeminist theory and art practices.
