Gilbert F. Houngbo, born in Togo in 1961, assumed the role of Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in October 2022, making history as the first African to hold this position. With a background in business management and finance, he has a diverse career spanning roles in the private sector, the United Nations, and serving as Prime Minister of Togo from 2008 to 2012. Houngbo's current priorities as Director-General of the ILO are on advancing social justice, combating workplace inequalities and discrimination, improving labour conditions, expanding social protection, and promoting gender equality on a global scale.
