How might universities change over the next decade? In this talk we explore the major forces of academic transformation. We begin by looking at global macro trends, including geopolitical tensions, the demographic transition, shifts in labor and income, and the VUCA model, all with an eye to how they might reshape campuses. Next we examine trends within higher education, such as enrollment changes and institutional finance. Then we dive into technology, focusing on the ways artificial intelligence can adjust academic systems. We conclude by looking ahead to the intersections of higher education and the climate crisis.
