Alexis Antoniades is Professor and Director of International Economics at Georgetown University in Qatar. A Fulbright Scholar, Professor Antoniades received his Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University. He is an expert on understanding global markets and the economics of the Gulf countries. His current research focuses on exchange rates, big data, prices, and labor market dynamics. He was awarded grants to undertake the first micro-study on the economies of the Gulf countries and to conduct sentiment analysis on Arabic chatter on Twitter.

Professor Antoniades previously worked as an assistant economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Since his arrival in Qatar, he has acted as an advisor to the leadership of both public and private sector organizations. 

A recipient of the prestigious Niehaus Fellowship from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Professor Antoniades spent the 2012-2013 academic year at Princeton, where he also served as a member of the European Union program. Professor Antoniades is a regular contributor to several economic journals, including American Economic Review, the Economics Journal, International Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, and European Journal of Political Economy.
