Foreign Investment Tops Commerce Leader’s Talk at Georgetown in Qatar

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s David Chavern spoke about foreign investment in the U.S. during a recent talk at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Qatar (GU-Q).
Chavern, who is executive vice president and chief operating officer for the world’s largest business federation, said the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is globalist in perspective and supports foreign direct investment in the U.S.
“Qatar is a capital exporter,” Chavern said. “The Qataris have money that they need to invest. Amongst policymakers and sophisticated business people there is an understanding that Qatar is a good partner.”
Invited by GU-Q’s office of business development to give the talk, Chavern spoke to attendees about the current economic situation in the U.S. and explained some of the business challenges for the future. He tied in the U.S.’s potential role in improving the world economy with possible advantages that can be gleaned from capital exporter nations investing in America.
“The Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than three million businesses and is the world’s largest business federation,” said Jonathan Cartmell, GU-Q’s executive director of business development. “We appreciate Mr. Chavern taking the time to share his insights with our students, especially as a significant number aspire towards a career in international business and appreciated the opportunity to benefit from his strong hands-on experience.”
A graduate of Georgetown University’s M.B.A. program, Chavern serves as chair of the Chamber’s Management Committee and is responsible for day-to-day operations as well as long-term planning. Among other responsibilities, he oversees corporate partnerships and small business outreach and membership.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
