Georgetown Brings Job Seekers and Employment Opportunities Together Again

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) students meet with a wide range of Qatar employers at the 6th annual Georgetown Career Fair that took place on Monday, March 17, on their Education City campus. The annual event provides an excellent forum for connecting the highly-skilled and diverse Georgetown student and alumni population with prospective employers from across the Gulf and beyond, for an exchange of business cards, CVs, and even on-the-spot first interviews in private meeting rooms that were set aside for this purpose This year’s fair attracted nearly double the number from last year, more than 40 participating organizations in all, with many companies returning year after year for an event that provides them with direct access to young people that possess the skills, creativity and work ethic to make a significant impact in their businesses or organizations. “Every year, we receive more interest and positive feedback from both organizations that already employ our graduates as well as those that are eager to tap into the skilled and highly-qualified workforce found on our campus.” said Sandy Kim, Career Services Manager and one of the event organizers. Commenting on the skill-set of Georgetown students and graduates, Sandy continued: “A liberal arts degree develops an individual to think clearly and critically, process complex information, and solve difficult organizational problems, so a Georgetown education is increasingly recognized by employers as highly relevant for the diverse, knowledge based economy that is developing in line with the national vision’ .” The event began with a Recognition and Networking Lunch where employer representatives were welcomed by Georgetown’s Dean, Dr. Gerd Nonneman, followed by an informal meet and greet involving current senior-level students and graduates, as well as Georgetown faculty, staff and fellow corporate representatives. After lunch, participating students visited employer exhibition booths set up in the Atrium of the Georgetown building to discover the various internship and employment opportunities offered by the representative companies. Some organizations that took part in this year’s fair include Qatar Shell, Nestle, Qatar Museum Authority, Qatar Airways, QNB, Silatech, Qatargas, Vodafone, QF Radio, PwC, Brookings Doha Center, Deloitte, Doha Bank, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others.Georgetown’s Careers Services Office in the Outreach and Business Development (OBD) department sponsors this fair, as well as other career development programs that offer their students and alumni lifelong access to a wide variety of professional development resources, such as assistance in CV writing and mentorship through their Tawjeeh program.
