Georgetown GEMBA Alumni Visit Qatar, Connect with Industry Experts

Georgetown Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) alumni visited the Georgetown Qatar campus on 11 October to meet with students and explore the business environment in Qatar. Their visit culminated with a networking lunch where students and recent graduates had the opportunity to learn from the MBA alumni about their career paths and current jobs.
“The networking lunch was a great opportunity for our students to learn firsthand about the various career paths of the GEMBA alumni and to have in-depth one-on-one conversations regarding the industries they work in,” said Sandy Kim, career services manager at Georgetown’s Qatar campus.
The Career Center at Georgetown holds a variety of similar events throughout the year as part of its ongoing career support for both students and alumni, in order to help them better understand various industries and job sectors, as well as network with potential employers.
“Georgetown’s liberal arts education prepares graduates to work in a wide variety of fields from government to banking to energy,” Kim said. “It is important for us to provide our students the tools to make informed decisions to help them pursue their passions.”
“The recent Networking Lunch enabled me to learn as much about myself as about the diverse, extensive and often inspiring experiences of Georgetown alumni,” said student Alex Wegner (SFS-Q’14). “Career Services at Georgetown has helped me to discover my passions, build networks, identify opportunities and attain what it takes to seize them.”
With a strong alumni community, such interactions are not unusual at Georgetown. “One of the great things about Georgetown is the level of engagement of our alumni,” said Charles Nailen (SFS’04, MBA’13) who manages alumni relations at the University. “We are always delighted to be able to welcome alumni from Georgetown programs around the world here to Doha.”
“As a foreigner new to the Middle East, the opportunity to meet with alumni in Qatar was invaluable. It answered many of my questions about graduate school and life after university, and helped me set a long term plan for my career,” explained Yoonsuk Choi (SFS-Q’16). “Being an International Economics Major, the GEMBA alumni cleared up many misconceptions of business life, and definitely helped me restructure my priorities.”
Georgetown’s Global Executive MBA program allows high performing executives from around the world to come together in six global locations over the course of a year as they work to pursue their degrees. The program, now in its sixth year, attracts executives from around the world by having them study and experience business culture in the USA, Spain, India, China and Brazil.
“Our meeting with Georgetown Qatar students and alumni gave us a chance to learn about living in Doha, while sharing career and business advice,” said Morgan Kelleher (MBA’12), one of the organizers of the alumni visit. “The Georgetown alumni community is open and supportive in Doha, as it is in Washington, D.C., and I hope current students will leverage our support.”
In addition to meeting with students, the alumni visited QSTP, met with representatives from Qatar Foundation, the Qatar Financial Center Authority (QFCA) and Silatech.
