Georgetown in Qatar Wins HBKU Community Competition

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, the Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) Hoyas team won the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Quiz Night competition.

In collaboration with Qatar Foundation (QF) and the Academic Bridge Program (ABP), the HBKU Faculty and Staff Life Committee regularly sponsors the intellectually-challenging Quiz Night for the employees of universities and programs within Education City.

Each institution forms a team from faculty and staff, gives their team a name, and registers for the Quiz Night competition. Education City institutions can register as many teams as they want, as long as each team has no more than 10 members.

GU-Q Assistant Director for Human Resources Karen Rasch is Georgetown’s representative on the Faculty and Staff Life Committee. She said, “The competition was well-prepared and it was a nail-biter of an evening. The questions seem to get harder each year! However, it is all in good fun and we are especially grateful to HBKU and QF for sponsoring this community-building event. It is always nice to build stronger ties within our Education City community.”

The GU-Q winning team was made up of Lori Sakkab, Dr. Edward Kolla, Dr. Steven Ward, Jonathan Cartmell, Hussein Aldobashi, Dr. Gary Wasserman, Dr. Daniel Stoll, Heather Kerst, Joe Hernandez, and Karen Rasch.

Quiz night began with the quiz program and entertainment, segued into dinner, and then ended with an official recognition of the winners. Seven institutions with a total of nine teams participated in the event, which was held at the HBKU Student Center ballroom at Education City.
