Georgetown University, Qatar Welcomes Prospective Students for Admissions Open House

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) will host its final Admissions Open House for Fall 2013 admission from 5pm – 7pm on the 16th of January, 2013 at SFS-Q. Currently offering a four-year liberal arts curriculum with majors in International Politics, International Economics and Culture & Politics, The School of Foreign Service in Qatar provides parents and students the opportunity to visit the state of the art campus and interact with the SFS-Q staff, faculty, current students and alumni as well as to gain insight and assistance in the admissions process.
Joseph Hernandez, interim director of admissions said, “For new students and concerned parents, the university application process is often perceived as a daunting step – questions about financial aid, the application process and future career options are just some of the issues that routinely come up that we address in the informal atmosphere of The Admissions Open House. This is the time of year when students are making their final choices for the next phase of their educational career, and the opportunity to engage with the SFS-Q community as well as take part in the essay writing workshop that will be held during the event, are excellent tools in this decision making process.”
The Admissions Open House will begin with a welcome reception followed by a series of SFS-Q faculty and staff presentations; these will provide an overview of the admissions process, student life, and curriculum offered at the university, as well as an indication of career prospects following graduation by the SFS-Q career development manager. The presentations will conclude with alumni providing insight into their experience of studying at SFS-Q, what it was like to graduate from the elite international affairs university, and what it was like to enter the workforce after graduating.
Beyond familiarizing attendees with all facets of SFS-Q life, the event will also provide students with the opportunity to take advantage of the Essay Writing Workshop. A personal statement and essay on a current global issue is a required element in the admissions application. The workshop, run by SFS-Q Student Development officer Kevin Gomes, will focus on the essay topic options, format and writing style to provide participating students an invaluable advantage in an enrollment process that has seen a significant increase in applications with each year.
Hernandez looks forward to “meeting the future leaders in international affairs,” at The Admissions Open House, noting that “SFS-Q is not only growing in the number and diversity of our students and faculty members, but we are also strengthening our research activities to contribute to both Qatar and the region at an even more significant scale.”
All are welcome to attend on Jan 16th at 5:00 PM and no pre-registration is required.
