Graduates and Seniors Reconnect with GCC Alumni Club Dhow Trip

Twenty-five Georgetown alumni and six GU-Q seniors recently took the opportunity to spend quality time together and have some fun during an afternoon dhow trip.
A dhow is a traditional sailing vessel still found in the Gulf today. In the past, the boats were trading vessels that could carry heavy items or be used by pearl divers, but now one sees many dhows transporting tour groups and residents for an afternoon of frolicking in the sunshine, particularly at Al Safliya Island in Qatar.
And this is just what these Gulf-based Hoyas did. Music, games, and a barbecue were all part of the day’s activities and a treasure trove of memories was created for all.
“The alumni dhow cruise was an amazing break from the daily trials and tribulations of the post-Georgetown ‘real’ world. It was an awesome opportunity to reconnect and have fun with friends and fellow alums from both my class and the classes before me,” said Sahan Sahsuvaroglu (SFS-Q’13). “A Hoya’s journey with Georgetown does not stop when he or she graduates; it continues for a lifetime through exceptional events and continued involvement with our beloved alma mater.”
GU-Q’s Manager of Alumni Relations Charles Nailen said, “The cruise was a chance to allow our alumni community to interact with our senior students in a social setting. It’s part of an on-going series of events to help strengthen the community amongst our alumni.”
This event was an initiative of the Georgetown Alumni Club of the GCC and the Office of Outreach and Business Development at Georgetown in Qatar. To learn more about GU-Q alumni events contact Charles Nailen at ccn@georgetown.edu.
