GU-Q Alumna Al-Subaey Receives Education Excellence Gold Medal in Qatar

Georgetown alumna Ghada Khalifa Al-Subaey (SFS-Q’13) recently received the Gold Medal in the Distinguished University Student category at the Education Excellence Day (EED) Awards annual ceremony in Qatar. Al-Subaey was an International Politics major who graduated from Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree, with Latin Honors.
While a student, Al-Subaey was a member and organizer of the Middle East Studies Student Association (MESSA), co-founder of the Women’s Society and Development Club, and an inductee to both Omicron Delta Epsilon (International Economics Honors Society) and Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society). She also received the Certificate of Arab and Regional Studies award, which honors the graduating senior who, in the judgment of the faculty, has written the best senior paper.
“Ghada is the perfect example of the creative potential and academic talent that will help build the future of Qatar’s knowledge economy,” said GU-Q’s Dean Gerd Nonneman. “She is an outstanding alumna who contributed a great deal to the Georgetown community as a student and, like a true Hoya, made her impact felt well beyond campus. I am confident Ghada will make even greater contributions to society as she distinguishes herself in scholarly pursuits, and by raising the bar in the sort of international outcomes that will put Qatar at the forefront of innovation.”
Al-Subaey said: “The innovative and inspiring community at Georgetown helped me to excel and shaped the person I am today. To be the only student from Education City to receive a gold medal this year is an achievement that I am very proud of. I am certain that there are many innovative and hardworking students at Georgetown and I encourage them to apply for the award next year.”
The EED awards include six categories that promote the development of human capital by encouraging students to pursue research and academic paths that are in keeping with Qatar National Vision 2030. Held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the EED awards are the highest academic honor granted by the State to distinguished academic achievers and the promise their diligence holds for the future of the country.
