Muhammad (Saad) Yacoob
GU-Q Doctoral Fellow
M. Saad Yacoob is a GU-Q Doctoral Fellow for 2025-26. He is a doctoral candidate in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University. His primary area of research is Muslim engagements with modernity–legal, theological, and philosophical. In particular, he deploys the thought and reception of the renowned philosopher-poet, Muhammad Iqbal (d. 1938), as a lens into the theoretical and practical manifestations of Muslim engagement with modernity. His primary research questions engage with Muslim imaginations of “modernity” as a category, the self, and the other; as well as intra-communal Muslim debates and conversations surrounding these questions. Yacoob has a B.A. in English from George Mason University.
