The Georgetown Experience Invites Prospective Students to Discover Campus Life

Georgetown University Qatar (GU-Q) in Education City will host “The Georgetown Experience”, Tuesday 14 Jan 2014 , from 5pm – 7pm, an admissions open house event where students considering enrollment at GU-Q for the upcoming fall 2014 semester can get a snapshot of university life. The event will showcase the unique undergraduate experience GU-Q offers and the programs that enrich the academic environment and develop skills to prepare Georgetown graduates for the workforce. With presentations devoted to the admissions process, the curriculum, student development opportunities, student-led initiatives, career support, and other student activities, guests will catch a glimpse of a student’s journey through the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar.

A walk-through of Georgetown’s curriculum will highlight GU-Q’s recent expansion featuring a broader dedicated faculty base and the addition of new academic programs. The newly launched International History major joins a list of degree options that includes International Politics, International Economics and Culture & Politics. Moreover, along with the Certificate in Arab and Regional Studies and the Certificate in American Studies, GU-Q now offers a certificate in Media and Politics, a joint initiative with Northwestern University Qatar (NU-Q). GU-Q’s four-year liberal arts degrees present students with the same internationally ranked foreign affairs curriculum that is offered at the main Georgetown University campus in Washington D.C., founded in 1789.

Prospective students and families will have the opportunity to speak to members of the Georgetown community, including GU-Q students, alumni, faculty, staff, and Admissions Officers. Tours of Georgetown’s state-of-the-art campus will also be provided

Students can also find more information on the upcoming workshops which will provide pointers on opportunities for increasing competitiveness of applications.

Joseph Hernandez, Director of Admissions, said, “For parents and students, the transition to university is an exciting time, full of the promise of new experiences and opportunities, but it can also be a stressful time. We hope the Georgetown Experience event will best inform prospective students and their families about what it’s like to be a part of the Georgetown community and help them in their preparations for post-secondary education.”

The Georgetown Experience event is free and open to the public.
