Next Stop, GU-Q: Ambassadors Light the Way for Future Students

Incoming students at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) were treated to an inspiring glimpse of their future university journey during this year’s Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program (GAAP). Hosted by current student volunteers, the prospective students and their parents were treated to a combination of learning experiences and cultural activities that gave them a taste of the diverse experiences they could expect as undergraduates at GU-Q.
The day’s events, themed as a festive carnival, featured engaging trivia games, an information-based scavenger hunt, and a spirited Walk of Fame—all designed to introduce students to campus life in a dynamic and interactive way.

The program also provided space for families, with a dedicated parent panel designed to address questions and offer more profound insight into the Georgetown experience.
International students enjoyed an extended two-day GAAP experience, which included a welcome dinner at Souq Waqif and a scenic hop-on, hop-off bus tour of Doha’s iconic landmarks.
This year’s GAAP coincided with a milestone in GU-Q’s history—its 20th anniversary—adding an extra layer of celebration to the event.
“The experience was unique, we saw the life of the people here, the students in particular. My favorite part of this trip was definitely the different excursions,” shared Anel Melis, an admitted student from Turkmenistan who flew in for the event. “GU-Q is the place where I see myself in the future.”

Michelle Hadebe, Class of 2025, helped to organize the event for the third year in a row. “Organizing the Georgetown Admissions Ambassadors Program for three consecutive years has been one of the most rewarding parts of my student journey. It’s more than just a program; it’s a bridge between current Hoyas and future ones. Every conversation and every event is an opportunity to offer prospective students an authentic glimpse into life at Georgetown,” she said.
Although her final semester was incredibly busy, Michelle still prioritized keeping the sense of community at GU-Q alive for the next generation: “Seeing their excitement grow as they connect with our community is what makes it all worth it.”
