SFS-Q Honors Exceptional Students with Academic Awards

SFS-Q Honors Exceptional Students with Academic Awards

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar recently held an Honors Dinner for students with a GPA of 3.5 and above during this past fall’s semester. The gathering took place in the Georgetown Building in Education City and was an opportunity to recognize students that went the extra mile in their commitment to academic excellence.

The Dean’s Honors List is a tradition kept in universities to signal outstanding performance amongst students throughout the academic year. First Honors indicates the highest level of achievement and requires a grade point average of 3.9 and above, Second Honors is a title awarded for great achievement, necessitating a GPA of 3.7 and above, and the Dean’s List is a designation for those students who have obtained an honorable standing of either 3.5 or above in the course of their semester of studies.

Marlene Canlas, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at SFS-Q, remarked on the progress of graduating students and the presence of freshmen students at the dinner. “It’s nice to see senior students attend this dinner for the first time, after four years of steady progression. It’s also great to see freshmen students, also first-time recipients, and we hope they will continue to maintain high standards of academic excellence, ensuring their presence at the Dean’s Honors dinner in years to come.”

SFS-Q’s Dean, Gerd Nonneman, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Daniel Stoll and the Dean for Student Affairs, Brendan Hill were all in attendance to recognize the hard work of SFS-Q students and assisted in the distribution of certificates to the honorees, bearing their names and new appellations. A three-course meal was also served during this celebration of academic dedication. Three students, Lamia Adi, Al Johara Al Thani and Kham Nang, received a perfect grade point average of 4.0 in their fall semester coursework, securing their place in a rarefied group of scholastic outliers. Many more hard-working award recipients received the distinction of Second Honors and made the Dean’s List.
