SFS-Q Hosts Art Exhibition – “Opus: Abstracted”

SFS-Q Hosts Art Exhibition -

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) announces the opening of an art exhibition entitled “opus: abstracted”, featuring the works of Doha based Indian artist Vibha Nanda. The artist presented her collection of acrylic on canvas and mixed media pieces at a special opening reception on 30 January, 2013, at the SFS-Q campus. The exhibit will be open for daily public viewing through 27 February, 2013, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The exhibition presents a collection of colorful acrylic canvases that trace dramatic lines and geometric silhouettes against a backdrop of movement, color and form. Likewise, her ceramic sculptures are striking glazed abstractions of constructed angles and sweeping curves.

A law graduate and masters in business studies, Vibha started her career teaching postgraduate business courses in Bahrain. She subsequently left teaching to pursue her passion for art, joining the Qatar Youth Arts Center to study ceramics under famous Iraqi ceramicist and sculptor Waleed Qaisi, where she presently continues to work. She attended workshops with artists like Gregory Hamilton Miller and Jerry Fresia to further her techniques in ceramics and painting.

A portion of proceeds from art sales will be donated to Reach out to Asia (ROTA), a Qatar-based NGO located within the Qatar Foundation framework that works with partners, volunteers, and local communities to ensure that people affected by crisis across Asia and around the world have continuous access to relevant and high-quality primary and secondary education.
