SFSQ to Promote the Art of Healthy Living at the First Community Health Fair
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFSQ) will host its first community Health Fair today (Wednesday, January 18) from 10am to 3pm at the atrium in conjunction with the experts from the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The open-to-all event will feature booths with information and health screenings available at no cost as part of SFSQ’s efforts to ensure community wellness and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Visitors to the fair will have the opportunity to have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked, eyes tested and body mass index calculated. HMC doctors and medical staff will also be available for a broad range of clinical advice and brief consultation sessions from women’s health and dermatology to podiatry, smoking-cessation and balanced diet.
A number of private health and wellness providers, Art of Abundant Living, The Diet Center, The Green Box, yoga instructor and personal trainers will also be on hand to chat with the visitors about how they can improve their overall health.
While a large number of Education City employees and students are expected to benefit from the SFSQ initiative, external visitors are also encouraged to stop by at the fair.
“SFSQ would like to increase the number of people in Qatar who are healthy at every stage of life. We strongly believe that when people are feeling their healthiest, they contribute more to the society,” said Mary Bryan, a Health and Wellness Officer at SFSQ and the organizer. “Our first Health Fair is geared to create health awareness and to get people to be aware of their diet, promote fitness and help them, if they are sick, to learn ways to address them. It’s a good opportunity for all those who made health-related New Year’s resolutions and are as a result facing difficulty in keeping them,” added Bryan.
No prior appointments are required for the event and visitors can walk in at SFSQ campus in Education City.
