Three Georgetown in Qatar Students Inducted into Prestigious Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society

Three Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) students have been inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the prestigious honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education.
Mohamad (MK) Harb (Class of 2014), Kevin Lee Yang (Class of 2015), and Atul Menon (Class of 2015), were recently accepted into this exclusive organization that recognizes those students who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty, and service. Inductees traditionally are described as demonstrating an appreciation of and commitment to the ideals of Jesuit higher education.
“MK, Kevin, and Atul qualified because of their academic achievements and their demonstrated loyalty to a sense of truth and justice,” explained GU-Q’s Dean Gerd Nonneman. These students not only are scholars but are citizens of the world who give freely of their time and energy to serve others and to promote the good of society. They embody the ideals promoted through the solid foundation of their Georgetown education. I am enormously proud of them.”
Kevin Lee Yang said, “To me, an education is an opportunity for self-development in order to benefit others. Hence, I am proud to count myself as a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the only Jesuit honor society, as I firmly believe in its values–that academic excellence is meaningless without a heart for service.”
“A Georgetown education prides itself on being a combination of communal work and academic discipline,” added MK Harb, “and for this reason I’m proud to be a part of Alpha Sigma Nu. It recognizes that growth occurs both outside and inside the classroom, and rewards you for it.”
Atul Menon is studying on Main Campus this semester and participated in the Alpha Sigma Nu induction ceremony at Georgetown’s Dahlgren Chapel.
Selection to Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors that can be given on a Jesuit campus. Only juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class can be nominated to apply to the program and only four percent of each class can be admitted.
