Test Flexible Policy
SAT & ACT Testing
Georgetown University in Qatar is implementing a flexible approach to our standardized testing (SAT, ACT) requirements for fall 2025 applicants. GU-Q values the information provided by standardized testing and will continue to consider test scores as part of our holistic admissions review process. However, we understand that some students may be prevented from taking either the SAT or ACT.
For this reason, the GU-Q Office of Admissions will be flexible and fully consider applications from students who encounter difficulties completing standardized tests.
English Language Proficiency Testing
Georgetown University in Qatar will continue to require submission of either the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo for all applicants.
While there is no required minimum Duolingo, TOEFL or IELTS score for admission to GU-Q, the most competitive applicants have scores of:
- 120 or higher on Duolingo
- 100 or higher on the Internet- based TOEFL (600 or higher on the paper-based TOEFL exam)
- 7 or higher on IELTS
It is generally recommended that individuals with the scores below delay applying and continue to work on their English:
- 100 on Duolingo
- 80 on the Internet- based TOEFL (550 on the paper-based TOEFL exam)
- 6 on IELTS
Waiver of English Proficiency Examinations
We waive the English language proficiency exam requirement for applicants who score 620 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT or 26 or higher on the ACT Reading/Writing sections.
