This project interprets decolonial and anticolonial texts through an energy humanities framework in order to develop a strategy for practicing critical energy humanities oriented toward and located in the Global South.

Hiwaraat Conference | Decolonizing Energy: The Past, Present and Future of Energy Justice

By revisiting the decolonial project through the perspective of energy, this symposium on October 4-5, 2025, addresses the colonial legacies of energy systems while also considering historical and contemporary visions of “taking back power” and energy justice.

Special Issue

Following a call for papers, an in-progress special issue of South Atlantic Quarterly is planned for January 2027. The issue lays the groundwork for a new intellectual history of energetic liberation, by inviting energy-focused readings of influential keystone decolonial texts.
